Cooking Is Like Love. It Should Be Entered Into with Abandon or Not At All - Harriet Van Horne

Well, hello there! Thanks for stopping by A Thought For Food! With so many blogs out there, I think it's always fun to check out the "About" page to get a better sense of who its creator is and why they were crazy enough to start a food blog.

I'm Brian, a Boston-based, pseudo-pescatarian (which means a piece of bacon sometimes ends up in my mouth... I don't know how, it just does) food photographer.  In addition to my obsession with taking pictures of every dish that graces our table, I'm also an avid film watcher (despite having never seen The GodfatherGoodfellasSchindler's List (in its entirety) and countless other "classics").  I went to film school, where I studied documentary production. For the next three years, I worked as an associate producer, before embarking on a career as a photographer.  I reside in Boston with my husband, Eric (this site's "executive producer" and occasional hand model) and our dog, Maki.

I started A Thought For Food in 2009 as a way to share my culinary creations with friends and family. Never did I think that others would read or comment on my posts.  Starting this site changed my life. The people I've met, the places I've traveled, the food I've eaten... it never would have happened if I hadn't put myself out there, as frightening as it is to do sometimes.

It's been a beautiful journey so far, one that I hope to continue for years to come.

Thank you all for your support.

XOXO

Brian

FAQ:

What camera equipment do you use to take pictures?

I photograph everything using a Canon 5D Mark III or Canon 6D and a 50mm/1.2 or 24-70mm/2.8 or 100mm/2.8 lens.

For a longer list of equipment and other resources, go to my Resources page.

How'd you begin your career in photography?  Do you have a photography portfolio we can view?

I actually started working in the film industry after college (where I studied film production), but I was an associate producer. I didn't really start taking pictures until I created A Thought For Food.  From there, I began getting freelance work with restaurants and magazines.

My portfolio can be viewed here.

I see a lot of vegetarian options on the site.  Do you eat meat?

Well, that's a bit complicated. I consider my diet 98% pescatarian, which means I almost always eat vegetarian or fish.  I eat meat in very small quantities when I go out to a restaurant and I know where the meat is being sourced from.  I believe I have only one or two recipes on A Thought For Food that contain meat (one is a bacon and clam pizza... you can't go wrong with that combo).

What's your favorite food?

Sushi. I can eat it every. single. day. and never grow tired of it.  With that being said, I also have a weakness for cheesecake.

Do you have an e-mail address we can reach you at?  Are you available to do freelance work?

Yes and yes.  My e-mail address is briansamuelsphotography at gmail dot com.  I will do my best to respond within 24 hours, though sometimes it takes a little longer.  As for freelance work, I am always open to inquiries regarding photography (and here's my photography portfolio) and sponsored posts. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions regarding this.
